SuperCamp’s learning skills are applicable to every subject and every level of learning, and to virtual learning as well as classroom learning.

This has not been an easy school year for students. With no warning whatsoever—and therefore no preparation—virtual learning became the new normal for students and their parents. No one was ready for virtual learning, not teachers, not students, and not their parents.

We recently came across an article in the Wall Street Journal declaring “The Results are in for Remote Learning: It Didn’t Work”! Then another article in the New York Times was brought to our attention by a parent: “What Students are Saying About Remote Learning.” It’s a sad and challenging situation.

While we have produced physical camps and trainings for decades, this spring we looked at how to create the same engagement, connection, and joy in learning online. It’s what students are missing and crave. With this is mind, we designed virtual programs based on our signature Quantum Learning System and the results are in—they work!

Have a look at some student reactions . . .

Peer-to-peer interaction is a really pivotal part of education . . . with Zoom we can see one another and our teacher, but everyone is always muted.

I’ve noticed that staying on task gets harder as the week goes on. Away from school and classmates and teachers, it’s hard for me to focus.

The lack of social interaction is a huge factor in me not enjoying online schooling.

I have a significant lack of motivation and I miss the thought-provoking discussions I used to have with my classmates.

Every day my motivation to do my work decreases and recently all my assignments have been turned in late causing my grades to drop.

Overall, online school makes time management extremely difficult and I feel like I’m not even learning in some of my classes.

I’m going into my first year of college next year and after this program I feel like I have what I need to be successful.

The academic and life skills we learned in the QL Mentors program were really useful . . . made me feel more confident about my learning progress.

It was great finding ways to help our uncomfortable zones become more comfortable.

With the school year now winding down, the grade from students, teachers, parents and administrators is already in: It was a failure.

Preliminary research suggests students nationwide will return to school in the fall with roughly 70% of learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year, and less than 50% in math.

Many districts plan to offer remote summer school to help combat “Covid slide.” There are concerns that the same remote learning that wasn’t effective in the spring won’t have changed much for summer.

In addition to students connecting with content, peers, and facilitators at deep levels and looking forward to online sessions, we know that there is high need for students to gain effective learning-to-learn skills for both online and in-person learning. With learning loss a real challenge, keeping students engaged and motivated is paramount at this crucial time.

The virtual programs we developed have been hugely successful—they provided students with new skills and more positive perspectives to build their confidence and help them adapt to virtual learning. Participants have not only gained confidence, increased their motivation, and learned how to focus their attention to stay on task (even with the distractions and reduced discipline of home learning), they made real peer-to-peer connections with other participants.

And now as students and their parents consider what form school may take in the fall—and there are many options being considered out there—many are wondering how students are going to cope. If it’s more virtual, there’s a feeling of dread for most. If it’s back to school “as usual,” there are concerns about learning loss (Covid-19 as well as the usual summer learning loss). And if it’s a blend of virtual and in-person learning, there’s a combination of these anxieties.

To address these real concerns of parents, students, and educators—as well as requests from students who have done our two-week programs—we are now offering a four-week virtual program. SuperCampU (July 6 to 31 and July 20 to August 14) is an engaging and interactive program for students ages 9 to 18 (in groups by age: 9–13 and 14–18). Each week Monday to Friday for one hour students learn SuperCamp’s core content that has resulted in improved grades, confidence, and motivation over the last 39 years! The program consists of four one-week courses: Self-driven Motivation and Leadership Now, Quantum Reading, Quantum Writing, and Quantum Strategies. During all our virtual programs, participants interact with peers in live energetic learning experiences guided by a SuperCamp trained facilitator—and have fun while they learn!

In addition, we have recently partnered with GeniusU and can now offer participation in their Young Entrepreneur Academy at no additional cost. This partnership gives students the unique opportunity of including powerful entrepreneurial experiences with SuperCamp’s proven curriculum. From being a YouTuber to building an app or having an online store, participants in this program can learn how to launch their own fully functioning digital business.

Students really need an extra boost now to reduce the possible effects of learning loss from their virtual school challenges and prepare them for their return to school in the fall no matter what form that may take. SuperCampU has been created to meet those needs. Participants will experience joyful learning and real connections with other participants and with our super SuperCamp facilitators!

When people say they don’t have a very good memory, they’re actually talking about recall. They have difficulty recalling events or information from the past. There are several factors that affect recall.

Dan Mikels believes that many people lose their ability to remember as they grow older because they stop “landmarking.” Landmarks, say Mikels, are events in our lives that are new, interesting, and exciting and that serve as links to other bits of information in our memory chain.

Take, for example, your very first day on your first job. Chances are, you remember that day vividly. You may well recall the people you met, where you had lunch, how the neighborhood looked, and what the weather was like. Although your chances of remembering the weather on any other random day are slim, you can remember it on that particular day because the day itself was a landmark, and it is linked to many other details and bits of information in your mind.

For most of us, our early lives are filled with many such landmarks. As we get older, the landmarks tend to come farther and farther apart, partly because we tend to become set in our ways and do things the same way time after time, and partly because we have already done so much that most experiences are repeats of previous experiences.

Your life doesn’t have to be that way, however. To nudge your memory into high gear, Mikels suggests you do new things, eat new foods, and go to new places. When you decide to dine out, go to a restaurant you’ve never been to before and order something you’ve never tasted. Take every opportunity to create new experiences—new landmarks. By living life to the fullest this way, you are creating new memory links and increasing your ability to remember all kinds of facts, events, and information.

Forging new memory links also increases your personal creativity. As Peter Kline says in his book The Everyday Genius (Great Publishers, 1988), to be creative problem solvers and constructive thinkers, “we must be able to draw freely and widely on the full range of our experience, which is the context of our memory.” As you can imagine, a person with a large and varying bank of personal experiences—and the skills to remember details from experiences and plug them into new circumstances—will be vastly more creative than a person who has few life experiences.

Heard of SuperCamp? In a nutshell, it’s a summer educational experience that teaches teens valuable life skills. Participants are transformed with a noticeable shift in their strength of character and a hunger for academic excellence. Some are so inspired that they leap from camp learner to team leader. One such student was Jake Smith. This is his story.

Jake attended Stanford Senior Forum prior to his final year of high school. The impact was so great that he became a counselor the following summer. He describes his experience as life changing. Jake believes that what he learned made college life more fulfilling. And though his time spent as a counselor was exhausting, he admits it’s “the hardest work you’ll ever love.” His love hasn’t died. He went on to be a counselor for five more years and currently works for SuperCamp’s parent company, Quantum Learning Network, as partnerships director.

From there he went on to Leadership Forum and then Quantum U the following year. Being extremely grateful that the mentor team was able to help him break through his insecurity, he suddenly realized that he wanted to return the favor and become a team leader. No longer nervous, he now speaks with authority, is approachable, and goes out of his way to connect with campers. The exact same way one special team leader connected with him, just four years ago.

We can take ownership of our lives every day, in many different ways. For example, we can demonstrate that we’re taking ownership simply by the way we communicate. Recently, I was 20 minutes late for an important meeting on the other side of town. When I arrived, I could clearly see the person waiting for me was upset. I started to say, “I’m late because I got stuck in traffic,” putting the blame on the traffic. Instead, I said, “I’m late because I got stuck in traffic. I knew there might be heavy traffic this time of day, and I should have left earlier. I’m sorry and I realize I cost you time waiting for me. Would you like me to stay later than we’d planned? Next time I’ll leave earlier.” Instantly, I saw the anger melt away from my associate’s face. My taking ownership for the situation diffused his anger. It made him realize I was sincere in my apology.

Quantum Academy’s college prep accelerated learning techniques are helping college students compete in today’s workforce. Limited seats still available for a short time.

In this fiercely competitive job market, college students must prepare every way possible to enter the workforce, starting with a successful and timely college degree. College students today must make the most of every class and that means being thoroughly prepared to keep up with the rigors of higher education. As a result, many wise college students are turning to college prep courses to gain the essential skills they’ll need to succeed, before ever enrolling in school.

With many college prep programs available, few stand out like Quantum Academy, which offers accelerated learning methods to learn faster and assimilate more, in conjunction with life skills to help students blossom into successful young adults.

Quantum Academy teaches many college prep accelerated learning techniques which capitalize naturally on the ways our brains work. Just a few of these techniques include Quantum Reading, Writing and Note-taking, mind-mapping and power peg 12 brain rules. Students learn how find their optimal learning environment and how to consider a professor’s teaching style, then adjust their own strategies to maximize their learning

Students also receive equally important life skills training such as how to manage their time, energy, and finances, balancing campus and academic life, social safety, dorm living, and Greek life. Students also learn essential financial principles such as credit card safety, budgeting, and financial aid.

Quantum Academy’s revolutionary college prep program teaches the whole student in a highly effective manner. During the intensive 8-day course, students gain added focus and confidence while elevating their communication, presentation, study, writing, reading and life skills.

Limited space is still available. For more information or to register your student, visit https://www.supercamparchive.com/college or call 1-800-285-3276 ext. 200.
